This beauty is not only a petrol-powered ride on mower, it’s a no turn ride-on mower. Easy to operate. It’s super simple to alter the deck height, with a cutting height optional range of between 1.5 inches and 4.5 inches. This mower is ideal for medium to large lawns.

Deck Size and Durability

With a fabricated sturdy, durable deck, 4 1/2 inches deep. 10 gauge steel alloy. It has 3 mowing rotary blades – so it makes light work of the lawn. We really can’t impress quite how well built this mower is. It’s fully welded and sealed. Saying it’s sturdy and built to last just doesn’t do it justice. Though we recommend washing the blade and mower after each use, this mower feels as though it could take on several mowing sessions and not clog up or jam. This machine is built to last.

Engine and Maneuverability

With an incredible 726 cc twin-engine and 23 horsepower. It’s so powerful you’d think if it had wings it would take off. This mower really is a powerhouse. It tackles even very steep bumps and hills with ease. As a driver, you don’t notice any lapse in force. Another praise is its handling. This charges over your lawn with power but finesse. With its two steering bars, this manoeuvres like a ballet dancer. For its size and weight, it’s incredibly nimble. It’s also relatively quiet for this type of ride-on gasoline-powered mower.

Trim Consistency

Ariens Ikon X 52 Inch provides such a beautiful and consistent trim. Though you won’t have to go over it again on a level lawn, the no turn feature means you could just mow right back over it. And, if you have a bumpy lawn, with nooks and crannies, hills and valleys, this is where the mower comes into its own because you can mow back and forth in a line to ensure your grass is cut perfectly level.

Weight

Weighing approximately 871 lbs. It is definitely a heavier riding mower. And, the wheels are quite small at 18 inches, so the weight isn’t ideally distributed. That said unless your lawn is especially sensitive it should not leave much of an impression on the lawn’s earth or grass.

Comes Assembled

It comes fully assembled, meaning you can get straight to cutting the grass and not spending hours and hours reading instruction manuals and putting the mower together.

Design

This is of course a residential mower, but for all of that, it does have commercial features – a cup-holder! The seat has a high back and armrests. The seat is luxuriously comfy, you’ll think you sat in your living room chair.

Downsides

Grass Clippings

For us, a downside is that it has no bagging option for grass clippings. Many mowers today have bagging options, either as standard or as an optional extra. There is no way of attaching a bag or grass tray to the mower. So, expect clean-up and not be able to use your lawn immediately after cutting (with the mulch). That said, because of the 3 blade deck, the mulch is superb – there’s no real clumping – so it decomposes smoothly and evenly into the lawn. It has one of the finest mulches we’ve seen on a mower.

Fuel Gauge

Another downside is that there is no fuel gauge and not much of a window (the tank is plastic and opaque) so it can be tricky to tell how much fuel you’ve got in it. We recommend topping it up every time you use it. You’ll have to change the oil of your mower approximately every 10 hours of usage. The oil pipe is also placed in an awkward place which means it can be a struggle draining it. You also need to change the air filter every year.

Storage of Ariens Ikon X 52

Make sure you have enough space to store this mower. It does tend to hog a room. But if you have a lawn that needs a mower like this, you almost certainly have the room! Additionally, wherever you do store it, make sure the door to that space and pathways to the lawn are 60 inches wide – any narrower and you might struggle to get the lawnmower through.

Recommendation for Ariens Ikon X 52

As said earlier, we do recommend washing it gently after each use. It really does make a long term difference to the lawnmower’s health and to the cut quality of your lawn.
